HD Hurts My Head

I have an HD television coming soon, and I’m trying to understand the state of all things HD. I must say, no matter where I look I’m not pleased.

I like my current DirectTiVo setup. It’s series 1, but hey it does the job. I’d like to get a series 2 so I could do more interesting things. I believe that the latest DirectTiVo HD receiver is series 2. So that wouldn’t be too bad.

But here’s where it gets screwy for me: if you get the HD TiVo setup from DTV you don’t get all the same local channels. In fact, you have to get an OTA antenna to get them. Huh? Now, their web site does say that I’d get the big 4 networks via the dish on locals, but any others you need the antenna. What century am I in again? (more…)

Verizon: We eventually start working for you

I have recently purchased a brand-spankin’ new Treo 700w phone. This is the phone I’ve been waiting for, as it combines the cool form factor of the Treo line with Windows Mobile. I had a Sidekick II previously (well, until last night when I ported my number), but due to its size I’ve avoided using it and instead moved to a Razr. But when I go to work, and I need all my appointments, etc I’ve resorted to carrying my iPaq hx4700 around (which is a totally awesome device, but a little large). So basically, i’ve been carrying around a phone and a PDA. So when I heard the Treo 700w was going to happen I was ecstatic. It was the phone I wished existed. I really like Windows Mobile and I’ve looked at various other similar phones but never saw quite what I wanted. (more…)

I (now) Want an iPod Video

Originally, when the new iPods came out, I have to admit that I thought they weren’t very exciting. I know I didn’t want to watch Desperate Housewives while on the run. They did look cool, but I just didn’t feel compelled. Recently, I’ve been closer to wanting to buy one just because the screen on it is sooooo nice. Almost PSP quality. And remember, the PSP is actually from the future. The Japanese have time machines and they can go a few years into the future and bring back electronics. That’s the only explanation I have for the coolness of the PSP and its amazing screen at such a low price. Isolinear technology! But I digress.

Just yesterday however, I realized that I must buy an iPod Video. Why? The answer is obvious: they have Battlestar Galactica now! How cool is that!? Any questions about the purchase have been erased from my mind. And since I just sold my old Gen 3 iPod and my Tungsten T3 on eBay last week, I am just rolling in dough. To the Apple Store!
